To put this statement into context, here are reasons why the Demon’s Souls remake is a great option, along with other reasons why the original game is the best way to experience this classic. It can mow down many targets in a single blow, but is difficult to handle and requires both strength and dexterity to use. Bluepoint fills in the blanks by adding a more Gothic aesthetic to buildings that once appeared blurred out. Equally, note the use of higher-grade tessellation – or potentially POM – for the walls to the left and right here. After picking up all the items, go to the upper floor, to the tunnel’s entrance from the picture.

Go to the bottom part of the stairs and wait there until a second Dragon arrives. Don’t be tempted to make a run for the items, if you do so the dragon will crush you. And ALL of these things are easily missed if you do not play over and over again, which is something that no reviewer and most players would not do unless they knew to because the game is so punishing. In Demon’s Souls players will take on the role of a fallen warrior bound to the Nexus in an attempt to save the land of Boletaria from an endless fog full of demons. Living and dying over and over again, they will slay demons with the aid of legendary heroes of the realm, as they gain power and try to lure The Old One back to sleep and end the nightmare. In August the RPCS3 emulator blog explained the 60 fps patch, which turned out to be surprisingly simple. With the framerate unlocked, Demon’s Souls ran at over 200 fps, but the in-game speed was all wrong.

Players can piece the lore together by speaking to different NPCs and visiting ruins, which is what the original director, Hidetaka Miyazaki, wanted to experiment with early on. I’ve spent well over 30 hours with this game and I’m sure I’ll be spending four times that on subsequent playthroughs in the months to come. It’s almost everything a fan or newcomer could hope for, with just a handful of things played too safe keeping it from sheer perfection. When it was first revealed, the long-rumored Demon’s Souls remake was met with great enthusiasm, including from me. The original game’s servers are down and it remains trapped on the PS3. This is a special title, something of a cult classic that helped spawn the entire “Souls” franchise (and genre) and elevated FromSoftware’s name with spiritual successors in Dark Souls and Bloodborne.

This might be intended to maintain the target resolution and performance at 4K. The Nexus has a separate tendency level called Character Tendency. You can check the character tendency by checking the eye at the top left-hand corner of the screen. The Mace is useful for those who want to dip their toes into a Faith Build.

Demon’s Souls has a number of “puzzle bosses,” where you’ll need to find an object in the world to defeat a Major Demon. If you find yourself bashing your head against a boss, there’s probably a clever trick to beating it. To make being in soul form a little easier, there’s an item called the Cling Ring. It will give you a max HP boost, but at the cost of eating up one of your ring slots. You’ll find the Cling Ring early on in Boletarian Palace, in between the two portcullises at the bottom of a stairwell, just to the left of the very large main gate you see when you load into the Gates of Boletaria. After (most likely) dying at the hands of Vanguard, you will lose your “body form” and awaken in “soul form.” You’ll do so with half the health points you have in body form, which obviously makes things difficult.

The Uchigatana is great for magic builds because of the scaling it receives when upgraded with Darkmoonstone. This bonus, along with the bleed damage it causes is a great way to bring down enemies quickly. If a player doesn’t want to farm for it, the sword can always be bought from the Dregling Merchant. It will cost players a hefty 6,000 souls which is a good amount for the early game, but well worth the investment for such a good strength weapon. The Claymore is one of the highest Strength weapons in the game. Players dedicated to a Strength build should wield this weapon and also consider adding the Crushing upgrade.

Helpful Guides For Demon’s Souls

The slits in the helm burn from underneath, giving the helmet a eerie glow, like molten lava bubbling from under the surface. A truly unique armor set in Demon’s Souls, the Binded Cross armor set looks a bit rough, but certainly comes with a specific vibe, as well as some protection from various types of damage. Getting this set requires some specific work, forcing you to go after the Executioner Miralda in the Boletarian Palace 1 – 1. The game is punishing enough without having to deal with some of the hardest Demon’s Souls bosses. The Kilij is one of the fastest striking weapons in Demon’s Souls, acting as a Curved Sword with a surprising amount of reach when used by your character.

For anyone interested in gaming history, Demon’s Souls is required reading, and a single playthrough isn’t enough to extract all its mechanical depth. Moreover, it’s novel and almost surreal to see what FromSoftware cooked up in 2009, and how its approach to game-making has evolved since then. The 80 physical attack Estoc is also relatively easy to acquire as it rests on the corpse of a prisoner situated on the first floor of the Prison of Hope. The listing has a November 19 release date affixed to it, which makes sense considering that’s the international launch date for the PS5 and most of its launch titles.

Long before Bloodborne and Sekiro, when Elden Ring was nothing more than a glimmer in Miyazaki’s eye, FromSoftware was a remarkably different studio. OK8386 had respect, to be sure, garnered through cult classic series like Armored Core and King’s Field, but these were far from the unstoppable cultural forces of something like Dark Souls. FromSoftware even suffered a handful of botched projects and flops like Ninja Blade—something that seems inconceivable in 2025, considering the company’s winning streak. But Demon’s Souls drastically transformed FromSoftware’s reputation and design philosophy, introducing the world to Hidetaka Miyazaki as a game director. It’s small by Elden Ring standards, but worth experiencing firsthand nevertheless. In Demon’s Souls, players will venture into the fog-ridden kingdom of Boletaria.
